Friday Flocknote :: September 10, 2021
Dear St. Rose family,
I hope that everyone with school-age children is having a great start to the year. If you've been on campus or at church recently, you probably noticed scaffolding in the courtyard and construction happening to the exterior of the church building. Despite delays due to materials shortages, we are wrapping up this work in the next week or so. This is a long-term fix and part of our Master Plan. We are grateful to the good people at Schommer Construction and our own Facilities Committee for making it all happen.
Be on the lookout for a new member of our staff, Wally Waibel. Wally works primarily at the school as our new theology teacher, but he will also spend several hours a week coordinating campus-wide ministry. In other staffing news, Sarah Zielinski has accepted a new job and will be leaving St. Rose at the end of September. If you know anyone who might be interested in helping out with liturgical music at weekend Masses, please connect them with Dianna or me.
I hope you'll
join me in praying for both Wally and Sarah as they embark on their new journeys!
Lastly, Catechetical Sunday is coming! This is when we honor all the people in our parish who pass on the faith to the next generation. I pray that this becomes a transformative time for all of us. The world needs the light of Christ more than ever and He's asking each of us to be his lantern-bearers, His disciples who are ready to change the world.
Peace to you,
ARCHBISHOP'S STATEMENT ON GOVERNMENT-MANDATED VACCINATIONS
The COVID-19 virus has surged once again with the rapid spread of the Delta variant, which is dramatically more contagious than the original virus. The pandemic and its effects have impacted the entire globe and laid a heavy burden on all of us, including our families and communities here in western Oregon. We continue to implore the Lord for his mercy and a rapid end to the pandemic.
Now that the Pfizer vaccine is fully approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the State of Oregon is requiring all school teachers, staff, and volunteers, including in private schools, to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 18 (see rule
). It is important to recall that statewide vaccine mandates for other vaccinations already exist for all children who attend schools.
